The Song Remains the Same at Paris-Bercy

For the second consecutive sold-out evening, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians/L&M Racing Yamaha YZ450F and reigning AMA Toyota Motocross Champion and ’07 AMA Supercross Champ rider James Stewart completely dominated the Bercy-Paris Supercross inside the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. So omnipotent was the American that he has led every lap of every race he competed, with the exception of two: one lap being led by GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham, and the other by Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha’s Josh Grant. Beyond these two single-lap “formalities” not withstanding, it was all full-sail and full speed ahead for the blue #7 YZ450F.

“It’s an awesome crowd here and I’m really having a good time,” Stewart said, enchanting the Paris crowd that he held in the palm of his gloved hand. “Everyone is treating me really well and I want to put on a good show for you guys.”

In the first of two main events on Saturday night, JGR Yamaha’s Josh Grant grabbed the holeshot and led the opening lap before Stewart went flying by. Mere moments later, Grant went tumbling through the whoops, unable to leave the track for three laps as he attempted to get his head together. Grant would shake off the effects of the heavy shunt and return later that night to place third in the second and final main event.

With Grant down and out after his crash, MDK/KTM’s Justin Brayton — runner-up to Stewart the night before — took control of second place and would hold station there until the finish. Kevin Windham would pilot his Honda to third in the main (although he did place a mediocre sixth in the second main event).

With only Sunday’s 3:00 P.M. matinee race to be held, Stewart is a perfect 8-8 after two nights of racing. Can he remain perfect and make it 12 for 12? Stay tuned.
